From mid-to-late July 2026, AgentOS X completed a major adjustment to system version coordinates and upgrade paths. This notice states the rules now in effect for users and builders.
We were learning as we shipped. Versioning and upgrade paths changed more than once, and parts of the experience were not stable or clear enough. That caused friction for people who had already installed or were evaluating the product—we apologize. This release is a full redesign of how install, upgrade, and software install fit together, with a public baseline we can carry forward. The AgentOS X team is committed to building a complete operating-system ecosystem: machines that install cleanly, update predictably, and extend through a coherent software surface.
- How install and upgrade work
Disk-installed systems update day to day via signed OTA. Use System Update to check and apply. Routine upgrades no longer require reinstalling from a new ISO.
First install on empty disks still uses the public AgentOS X Server and Desktop ISO images. ISO serves first delivery, not day-to-day version rolls.
Apps and optional capabilities install through the package market (AGPK). System services and system UI ship via system update (OTA). The two paths stay separate.
User-facing system update is the AgentOS channel only. Distro-native system updaters are not the product upgrade path.
- Current baseline
From 2026-07-21: first-install baseline is ISO x.1.0 (Desktop / Server). OTA series starts at 0.0.1, then 0.0.2, 0.0.3… relative to x.1.0. Prior public 1.3.x OTA packages are removed from the CDN channel. Notes about 1.3.16 / 1.3.17 remain historical. Current baseline is ISO x.1.0 and OTA 0.0.1.
- What stays the same
AgentOS X remains the flagship whole-machine delivery. Public downloads and checksums remain on the CDN and docs downloads pages.
